Filtering Settings Toggles
All toggles in the Browsing section are global settings that will be applied to any users in your organization while content filtering is enabled. If out of school mode is enabled and filtering is disabled, these settings will not be enforced.
When Force SafeSearch is enabled, all search results generated by Google, Yahoo, and Bing will always have explicit content removed from the results. All three services do have their own versions of this feature, but users can disable this feature by simply disabling it or signing out their account. This toggle will enforce SafeSearch on Google, Yahoo, and Bing searches.
Google Translate and other translators can be used to translate an entire webpage and can be used to bypass traditional filtering methods. Enabling Safe translator will apply your content filtering policies to sites passed through translate.google.com and will block all websites in the Translators websites category for all users, whether the Translator category is checked or not.
In the event that a translator site is unexpectedly blocked while this setting is enabled, simply add an allow rule for the website on your policies.
Block Direct IP Access
Websites can be accessed by hostname/domain or its public IP address. Users can avoid some filtering policies by entering its IP address into their browser. Enabling this setting will prevent users from accessing websites via their direct IP addresses (e.g. 126.96.36.199).
This setting can be overridden for individual IPs (internal and public) by adding an IP as an allowed site on your policies.
Block Consumer Google Accounts
When Block Consumer Google Accounts is enabled, users will be prevented from signing into additional Gmail or Youtube Accounts. Users will be locked to the Google account that was used to sign in to their Chromebook. When enabled, this setting will be applied to all users that have the GoGuardian extensions installed.
- Adding new accounts at accounts.google.com
- Signing out of Google
- Switching between Google accounts
- Signing out of Youtube
- Switching between Youtube accounts
NOTE: If "Restrictive Mode" is enabled, be sure to add *mail.google.com* to the allowed sites list for the policy configured for restrictive mode. This will ensure your users are able to sign into their managed(not personal) Gmail accounts on devices logged into for the first time.
Block Iframe Content
An Iframe, short for "inline frame", is an HTML element that can be used to embed content from external sources. Iframes can be used as a proxy to bypass filtering policies. Enabling this setting will enforce your filtering policies on any embedded Iframe.
Note: This does not block all Iframes, it only enforces Admin filtering Policies to content embedded within the Iframes.
