Roles and Permissions
There are 3 user account types within GoGuardian Beacon:
- Super Counselor (Full Access)
- Counselor (Limited Read-Write Access)
- View Only (Read only)
Note: Only Super Users can assign and/or change Beacon permission levels.
*Please keep in mind that Beacon users will have access to students’ sensitive information pertaining to suicide and self-harm. We suggest that you consult your school’s suicide prevention policy prior to adding users.

Super Counselor
Super Counselors are top-level users within the context of their Beacon deployment. Multiple Super Counselors can exist for individual Beacon deployments.
A Super Counselor can:
- Modify all Beacon settings
- Bypass Alerts
- View and modify all components of Beacon Alerts
- Receive text / email notifications
- Update Actions Taken
- Create Notes
- Update Risk Level
- View Local Authority / Hotline information
- View Browsing Activity
- View Previous Actions
- Provide phase categorization feedback
- Add/remove users within Beacon
- Request updates to parent/guardian contact information for individual students
Counselor
A Counselor can:
- View and modify all components of Beacon Alerts
- Receive text / email notifications
- Update Actions Taken
- Create Notes
- Update Risk Level
- View Local Authority / Hotline information
- View Browsing Activity
- View Previous Actions and Previous Alerts
- View Beacon settings (cannot edit)
- Update Personal User Profile
- Phone Number
- Notification Preferences
View Only
A user with View Only access can:
- View all components of Beacon Alerts
- Receive text / email notifications
- Update Actions Taken
- View Notes
- View Risk Level
- View Local Authority / Hotline information
- View Browsing Activity
- View Previous Actions
- Provide phase categorization feedback
- View Beacon settings (cannot edit)
- Update Personal User Profile
- Phone Number
- Notification Preferences
