In a Scene, teachers may block or allow specific websites. Many popular educational websites sometimes redirect to other websites in different domains -- Quick Lists accommodates this. Quick Lists are groups of URLs that can be quickly added or removed to a Scene's exceptions list. They can be added to block or allow mode scenes.
There are 3 types of Quick Lists.
1.) GoGuardian Quick Lists. GoGuardian has created a few Quick Lists of popular websites including the following: Kami, Desmos, Thinking Through Math, Mastery Connect, Kahoot, Schoology, Study Island, Google Docs, Front Row Ed, i-Ready, Reading Plus, Pearson, Houghton Mifflin.
2.) Shared Quick Lists. Shared Quick Lists are collections of URLs managed through Org Management by a Super User. These Quick Lists will be accessible to all Teachers within the organization.
3.) Teacher created Custom Quick Lists. Teachers may create a custom Quick List to apply to different Scenes. These Quick Lists will only be viewable in their own account. Teachers can add or delete the URLs to this list.
Create a Shared Quick List
A Super User may add URLs individually or through a CSV upload. Admins can also export any existing Shared Quick Lists as a CSV file.
Note: There is a 100 URL limit per Quick List.
Each quick list will be available to Teachers when they create scenes in the Teacher product. Teachers will have the ability to allow or block the collection of URLs in each quick list.
To Create a Shared Quick List to your Organization:
- Create Quick List
- Create Title
- We recommend including Filter Mode in Title if desired. (Most Quick Lists will be used with "Block Mode")
- Add URLs individually or via CSV upload
- Once a URL is added manually, a CSV upload may not be used for the Quick List.
- Click Save
Quick Lists using Wildcards
Websites can be blocked or allowed using *wildcards, another term for * (asterisks). To block by keyword, add a word with an * immediately before or after the word to your exceptions list. This feature is more useful for blocking sites that contain the keyword in its domain.
Example: *myschool or
When added as a Block Mode Exception, this would block all websites, but allow all URLs that contain the word myschool in its domain or subdomain.
When added as an Allow Mode Exception, this would block all URLs that contain the word myschool in its domain or subdomain.
When adding a URL, asterisks can be added on both sides.
All teachers will be able to see the Shared Quick Lists a Super User creates when creating a Scene. We recommend reaching out to your department heads or most tech-savvy teachers to share their recommendations on what Quick Lists are needed per subject area or assignment type.
