Beacon Grouped Alerts
We're introducing Grouped Alerts into GoGuardian Beacon! You will now be able to review and take action on a group of alerts rather than individually assessing each alert. Once an action is taken on a grouped alert, the alert group will close, and any subsequent activity on the same URL and Predicted Phase combination will form a new group of alerts. This will ensure that any subsequent activity will still produce a notification and require review.
Generated alerts must meet the following criteria to be grouped together:
- Generated at the same URL
- Triggered the same Predicted Phase
- Occurred within a fifteen-minute window
Note: At this time, Gmail/email inboxes may not be grouped due to technical complexities with a user's inbox, and difficulties with determining what is similar/dissimilar.
Assigned users will only receive one notification for each of these groupings. Any subsequent alerts that are triggered and meet the previously mentioned criteria will simply be "stacked" among the group. Only when a user takes an action with the grouped alerts or a new, entirely separate alert gets generated will another notification be sent.
Grouped Alert Views
- Grouped Alerts in the Dashboard
- Grouped Alerts in Search Results
- Grouped Alerts in Quick View
- Grouped Alerts - Detailed View
A grouped alert appears as a stack of cards in the Beacon dashboard. The card displays the usual phase, actions taken, and risk as with a standard alert card, but these values apply to the entire group. The grouped alert also displays the alert trigger (domain and full URL), as well as the time window over which the group was formed. Following the behavior of standard alert cards, clicking on these cards opens a detailed view in a drawer.
Grouped alerts appear in search results as well. Searching for a student's name will surface any grouped alerts involving that student. Searching by risk, phase, or any other criteria will also reveal grouped alerts. Clicking these results will open the alert details in the drawer view.
Quick view also distinguishes between single and grouped alerts through the use of the stacked card.
The detailed view for groups allows a counselor to evaluate and take action on the entire group in one view. A carousel is provided for reviewing every screenshot associated with the individual alerts that compose the group, as well as a unique list of all students involved. Clicking on the carousel expands it to provide easier viewing and additional details on each screenshot (a timestamp and the associated student).
If parent notifications are enabled for this deployment, you will see whether or not a parent notification was successfully sent to each parent in this view (a green checkmark or a red X will appear next to each student's name).
