Understanding Why an Alert was Generated
The Rationale tab within a Beacon alert displays relevant information to show why an alert was generated. This may give counselors insight into how our model makes a decision when generating an alert. Sometimes when an alert is triggered, the supplementing screenshot may not always appear to display any content related to suicide or self-harm.
When pages are analyzed by GoGuardian Beacon and concerning activity is detected, screenshots of the user's page are taken. However, many websites have additional text content that may not be contained inside the bounds of a screenshot. To aid in understanding why a Beacon alert was generated, the Rationale tab displays screenshots and the text that was analyzed within the alert card. This tab also contains two sections: Screenshots and Words on the Page.
Screenshots of browsing activity from 15 minutes before and after alerts are generated are displayed with a corresponding timestamp. The screenshot from the source of the alert will be highlighted yellow and displayed in the center. Use the arrows on either side of the screenshots list to scroll, and click on an individual screenshot to enlarge it.
