Teachers are now able to see the URL of a website students tried to navigate to when they were blocked by an Admin policy or by a Teacher scene during an active session!
Situation A: Student Blocked by an Admin Policy
blc
- If a student was blocked by an Admin Policy, teachers will see the message, "Website Blocked by Administrators," where the name of the website the student is actively on would normally be found. The Admin block page will be visible in the student screen preview.
- Below this, teachers will see the message "Student tried going to..." followed by the URL of the domain the student tried to navigate to in the next line. In the example above, the student tried to navigate to facebook.com, and they were blocked by a GoGuardian Admin policy.
How Do I Fix This?
- Please contact one of your organization's administrators for more information on why the website is being blocked.
Situation B: Student Blocked by a Teacher Scene
- If a student was blocked by a Teacher scene, teachers will see the message, "Website Blocked by Scene," along with a screen preview of the Teacher scene block page.
- Similarly to when students were blocked by an Admin policy in an active session, teachers will see the message "Student tried going to..." followed by the URL of the website the student tried to navigate to in the next line. In the example above, the student tried to navigate to "newtab" (which corresponds to Google Chrome's New Tab page, chrome://newtab).
How Do I Fix This?
- If the student is getting blocked by a Teacher scene, the same teacher can update the scene in order to allow the website, if they wish for it to be allowed.
- In the example above (with the scene in Block Mode), the teacher would add *newtab to the Scene as an allowed exception, with a wildcard (asterisk) at the beginning of the allow rule.
