What Are Barcodes?
A barcode is a method of representing data in a visual, machine-readable form. Barcodes can be created and assigned a unique value to them, to assist with inventory management.
How Do Barcode Scanners Work With Computers?
A barcode scanner is an input device, similar to a keyboard. While keyboards interpret input (in the form of each keypress by a user) as a character, barcode scanners interpret input visually so that they can scan a code and convert it to its corresponding set of characters.
When a barcode scanner is connected to a computer, a user can use it to scan a barcode while selecting any text input field on their computer, and the code will be translated into its corresponding character set in that input field.
